God desires us to be with Him forever
God created us to be with Him forever and passionately desires an intimate relationship with us. However, we all seek to satisfy our legitimate needs and desires in our own ways, without looking to Him as the Source of everything we need. His ways are far superior to our ways. He has given us freedom as individual persons in His relationship with us and allows us to go our own ways but when we do we are placing ourselves and other things above Him in value and significance. Doing so gives those others control over us, making us slaves to their values which are never as good as His. This choice of ours results in the breaking of our relationship with Him.

However, this does not end His love for us nor His desire for an intimate relationship with us. He has taken it upon Himself to make it possible for us to be reconciled to Him by paying the price it costs to buy us back from the slavery into which we sold ourselves. It is something we certainly do not deserve and can never earn but He loves us so passionately that He offers it as a free gift. As with any gift, though, it does not do us any good unless we are willing to receive it.

This gift is in the form of redemption through Jesus Christ, the Messiah, whom He sent to live a life in flesh like ours but in perfect relationship with Him and to die on the cross as a despicable criminal and then to be raised from the dead in victory. Receiving this gift means we are turning from our rebellious ways of seeking to satisfy our needs and desires, recognizing that His ways are better, and genuinely desiring to live in the relationship with Him that He wants for us.

On the other hand, rejecting this gift means we believe what He has done is not good enough for us. There is nothing else that can restore our broken relationship with Him.

Any alternative to living in the relationship that He desires for us is actually slavery for us. Our needs and desires will never truly be satisfied through our own ways, no matter how things may seem. No one values us the way He does and nothing is able to work only for good the way He does. His love for us and His desire for an intimate relationship with us cannot be made clearer than through what He did for us through Jesus Christ, the Messiah. Receiving this gift from Him sets us free from our bondage to all other things. He totally transforms our lives, enabling us to learn to live in freedom as we grow in our relationship with Him.
